NAPFA Targets Young Fee-Only Planners With Genesis Networking Group

It seems that the average age of financial planners in the industry moves in lock-step with the welcoming of a new year. Add one to the calendar year, add one to the average age.

Like the NexGen community of the Financial Planning Association, a new networking group introduced today by NAPFA aims to reduce the consistent increase in average age by supporting young financial planners. The new group, called NAPFA Genesis, and is focused on the growth and advancement of students, associates and planners under the age of 33.

“We are hopeful the creation of NAPFA Genesis will help younger planners in the industry learn what they have to do to be successful while making Fee-Only financial planning stronger in the future,” said David Grant, CFP®, founder and volunteer leader of NAPFA Genesis. “Those providing financial planning services are getting older so there is a need to develop a strong presence of competent Fee-Only professionals to help drive the industry forward. NAPFA Genesis will be a resource that has the potential to develop a future generation of Fee-Only planners.”

Meeting of the FPA® NexGen Community This Weekend

I’m flying to Colorado tomorrow morning to connect with the FPA® NexGen community in Estes Park. This will be my third NexGen conference out of the last five (I seem to attend in every even-numbered year).

I look forward to reconnecting with many of my peers and making new friendships with other young advocates of the financial planning profession.

I don’t expect to have widespread Wifi coverage, so there won’t be much live-tweeting from the conference. Still I hope to return and present some of the important discussion topics and takeaways from the meeting of young and motivated advisers in the profession.

Attend My Panel Presentation at FPA DFW Career Day

I was asked to appear on a panel for the upcoming FPA of DFW Career Day event this Friday, January 29. The panel is going to address career development and career path trends for young financial planners and career changers in the financial planning industry.

I believe there will be a total of four panelists, each representing different backgrounds, experiences, and pathways into financial planning. All panelists are members of FPA NexGen, a unique community for up-and-coming professionals who represent the future of financial planning.

Click here to visit the FPA DFW Career Day 2010 event listing. Today (Wednesday) is the last day to register, so be sure to sign up!

The Career Day and CE event begins at 11am while the round table panel discussion is scheduled to begin around 2:30pm.

If you plan to attend the Career Day event, please seek me out and introduce yourself. Also, if you have questions about career development, bring them up during the round table discussion.

FPPad.com in Financial Planning’s NexGen Coverage

Financial Planning MagazineDuring the FPA NexGen conference, I had the privilege of meeting Gabrielle Whelan from SourceMedia, Inc.  Stacy Schultz of Financial Planning Magazine also attended the conference, but I didn’t have the opportunity to speak with her.

Gabrielle recently posted her review of the FPA NexGen conference on Financial Planning’s website.  Click here to read her article titled Notes on NexGen.  I’m very thankful that she included a link to FPPad.com in her review.
