November 2009 CFP® Certification Examination Results Update

Quite a few searches are being made right now for the results from the November 2009 CFP® Certification Examination.

Remember that CFP Board posts regular status updates to its website to inform examinees of the scoring process. Today, CFP Board released the following update:

Still curious on exactly how long it takes between taking the exam and receiving official certificaton? This post on FPPad, How Long Does it Take to Complete the CFP® Certification Process?, should clear up many questions.

In addition, CFP Board recorded their webinar on July 30, 2009 discussing the post CFP® Exam process and what examinees can expect while waiting for results. I’m including the YouTube video below for your convenience.

Weitzman’s Right to Use CFP® Certification Mark Suspended

Several months ago FPPad chronicled the activities of Matthew Weitzman (Anti-Fraud Measures Your Practice Needs and Follow Up to Fraud Prevention Practices) after the SEC alleged that Mr. Weitzman misappropriated client funds through a series of unauthorized transfers.

Today, CFP Board announced that it issued an Interim Suspension Order to Mr. Weitzman suspending his right to use the CFP® certification marks. The suspension was issued because “Mr. Weitzman failed to respond to CFP Board’s Order to Show Cause within 20 calendar days, as required by CFP Board’s Disciplinary Rules and Procedures,” according to CFP Board.

CFP Board’s will complete further investigation on the claims and likely issue further action, but until then, Mr. Weitzman is no longer able to use the CFP® certification marks in any literature, advertisements, or correspondence.

How Long Does it Take to Complete the CFP® Certification Process?

Earlier this week, “BigA” asked in part:

For those of you with your CFP, was the turnaround from exam pass notification this slow?

Here is the complete comment from November CFP® Certification Examination Results Mailed:

I submitted my education and experience requirements in Dec 2007. The letter from the board indicates 20 business days (aka a month) of processing time.  I called the Board to ask if this is 20 days from when they got it or 20 days from 15 January 2008 (the date on the letter they sent us).  I was told, 15 January.  You think the wait ends then.  Nope.  I was told that assuming those documents are in good order, then they will request a background check from FINRA/SEC which could take 4-6 weeks.  So here is the time line.  By 15 February you should know if your education/experience requirements are completed.  Then around mid to late March your background check should be complete.  Wow.. is that crazy or what? For those of you with your CFP, was the turnaround from exam pass notification this slow?  Patience is a virtue that I hate to harvest…

I’m going to list my experience as a guide to others looking for more information on how long the official certification process may take.

Really, When Will the July 2008 CFP® Exam Results Be Mailed?

Frustrated!Update #3:  09/18/2008 2:16PM PDT: Reports are coming in that exam results letters have arrived in the mail.  Check the comments below!

Update #2: 09/16/2008 2:42PM PDT: Carol Lee Roberts posted again to the Financial-Planning.com discussion boards.  Among other things, she wrote, “There will be an update posted on the Board website today and I will also post the content here.”  Click here to read her latest remarks.

The CFP Board website has the following statement:

NOTICE: Results from the July 2008 CFP® Certification Examination were mailed on September 16, 2008 to the preferred mailing address of each exam taker. Results will be posted to the secure online CFP Board accounts of exam takers on or about September 22, 2008. Exam results will NOT be released over the phone, by fax or by e-mail. CFP Board wishes all exam takers the best as they receive their results.

Update #1: 09/15/2008 2:21PM PDT: Carol Lee Roberts, Managing Director of Examinations and Education at the CFP Board, has addressed concerns over the delay of exam results on the Financial-Planning.com discussion boards.  Click here to read Carol’s response.

Carol’s comments refer to an email sent to registered candidates on August 15.  I didn’t receive the email.  The last message I received was the August 14th email about the Exam Candidate Questionnaire notification that was sent in error. Other commenters at FPPad also did not receive the August 15 email.  What about you?

Finally, I have some solid new news related to the release of the July 2008 CFP® Exam results!

The odd thing is (perhaps not so odd considering the past) that my exam review provider, Ken Zahn, has been more proactive on the communication front than the CFP Board.

Technical Difficulties at the CFP Board

Broken!Another update as of 8/14/08, see below and also read comments from Carol Lee Roberts, CFP®, Managing Director of Examinations and Education for the CFP Board.

Initially I wasn’t going to say anything about my recent experience with the CFP Board and some of the technical issues I have encountered over the last few months. But today the third issue came up, and I’m beginning to get concerned that operations inside the CFP Board aren’t going as smoothly as possible.

Back in June (after the exam registration deadline), I received an email message from the CFP Board that indicated either my payment or my registration was incomplete. Calls flooded the Board from concerned exam applicants. It turned out the email was sent in error to most (all?) applicants and we were told not to worry; our registration for the exam was not in jeopardy. Nevertheless, be still my beating heart!

Is the CFP Board Making Matters Worse?

capitolI have Angie Herbers’ blog, The Fast Track, linked over in my blog roll in the left sidebar (it’s also in my Google Reader subscription).  I know Angie and appreciate her insight on the myriad of practice management issues that most maturing firms encounter during various stages of growth.

Today she posted an update to her blog about the state of events affecting the CFP Board that resonates with me.  As most know through my post about attending Ken Zahn’s Live Review course, I am preparing for this July’s CFP® Certification Exam, so it is very important that the integrity and awareness of the certification be held in a positive light (I shouldn’t even be blogging, I should be studying!  But I digress).
